Wake Up With Purpose: A Biblical Morning Routine for Busy Moms
Jun 11, 2025
Mornings as a mom can feel like a superhero effort. You have to get ready, get the kids ready, make sure people are fed, dishes, items for the day packed, and carry everything including toddlers to the car while trying to keep your outfit for the day clean.... yeah, full chaos.
Here is a simple routine I have established to keep my mind focused on what matters, maintain a Christ-given peace, and still perform fairly well in the mom-duty realm.
Step 1: Wake Up With Worship
Instead of grabbing your phone first thing, take a moment to worship. Whether it’s a quiet prayer before your feet hit the floor or a worship song playing as you brush your teeth, starting with praise sets your heart in alignment with God.
"In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly." — Psalm 5:3
Quick Tip: I keep a small Bluetooth speaker in the bathroom to play my favorite worship playlist. It turns routine tasks into worship opportunities.
Step 2: Open the Word (Even Just 5 Minutes)
God's Word has power, even in small doses. Choose a passage from Psalms or Proverbs, or follow a devotional plan. Don’t pressure yourself for an hour-long Bible study—just aim to be with Him.
Ideas for Short Time Blocks:
Read one Psalm and ask: What does this teach me about God?
Use a verse-of-the-day app
Keep a Bible open in the kitchen or living room
Read a devotional (most are just a single page and filled with great food for thought).
Step 3: Write a Simple Prayer or Verse
Grab a notepad or journal and jot down a one-sentence prayer or rewrite the verse that stood out to you.
Examples:
"Lord, help me respond with gentleness today."
"You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast..." — Isaiah 26:3
Writing it helps cement truth into your mind as the rest of the day unfolds.
Step 4: Plan the Priorities
Before the chaos kicks in, make space to choose what really matters today.
I use the "3 P's":
People – Who do I need to serve or love today?
Purpose – What is one task that aligns with my calling?
Peace – What can I say no to so I don’t rush God's rhythm?
Keeping it simple makes it doable.
Step 5: Invite the Holy Spirit Into Your Mom-Life
Before the little feet hit the floor, whisper a prayer:
"Holy Spirit, lead my words. Guide my tone. Give me a gentle answer and a joyful heart."
And if your kids wake up early? Invite them into your quiet time. They don’t need perfect peace to meet Jesus with you. They just need to see you seek Him.
Final Thoughts
This isn’t about a picture-perfect routine. It’s about pursuing God first, even in the middle of peanut butter sandwiches and toddler negotiations.
Your morning doesn’t have to be long to be powerful. You don’t need silence to find peace. When you wake up with purpose, you parent from a place of presence — His presence.
"She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come." — Proverbs 31:25
